03-Daeron Targ

Peace was a rare thing for Daeron. Ever since he was a babe he's been a haunted, sullen boy.

But the Gods had deemed him worthy of one good thing. Or, rather, two.

And that's how he found himself carrying a basket of simple foods to the Summerhall garden for lunch. Daeron was sober for once, having made a promise to his lady-wife that he would cut back on his drinking when she fell pregnant. It wasn't easy and the dragon dreams were heavy... but he was honoring his promise.

The sight of you under the cherry tree took his breath away. You were sitting on a quilt in the grass, skirts pooled around your legs. In your lap was Daella, you and Daeron's three year old daughter. Daella was babbling nonsense as you pointed out a cricket perched on the edge of the quilt.

"Lunch is served, my darlings," Daeron said, sitting the basket down.

His arrival caused the cricket to hop away, which made Daella's face scrunch. She was about to whine out a complaint when she spotted him. All sadness left her face as she held her arms up. "Dada!"

A tender smile crossed Daeron's face as he lifted her from your arms. "Hello, my sweet. Are you hungry?"

Daeron was still a haunted, sullen young man. But the Gods had given him two gifts, and that's more than he ever thought he'd have.
