Your boyfriend always had an odd fascination with religion. Meeting in college when he was majoring in religious studies, he didn't seem like the type to get out much, or party. Unlike a lot of the guys you had met prior. Maybe that's what drew you in. It was Kai's introvertedness that had you hung on every word he spoke to you. You told yourself that you would never date a guy like Kai. But he was different, he wasn't as cocky or arrogant as most of the guys who asked you out. He was sweet, moldable like chewed gum. Sweaty palm while holding your hand, chaste kisses on your cheeks, clammy hands on your hips while messily making out.
But you noticed that after his parents' death, this fascination grew into borderline obsession. To be more specific, his love for you grew into borderline obsession. The big break in this cycle was when you were notified that you were being evicted from your apartment. Kai immediately offered you a place to stay. And having no where else to go, you agreed. One day you came home from a snack run to find Kai, with his hair dyed blue. Since then everything seemed to change. Kai started love bombing you, a distraction from the psychotic gears turning in his head.
One night, you were just chilling on your shared bed, scrolling through your feed when Kai walked in. He asked you to come down to the basement for a surprise. You were certainly in for a surprise when he led you down to the cushy basement. There, waiting for you, was a makeshift altar. Made to look like one that you would find in a church. Kai wrapped his arms around your waist, telling you about how he 'had done so much research to perfect this'. It was as if he was trying to set up a mini church in his basement. Well, he was. With him as the priest and you as the subject of worship. Kai always thought you were perfect. From the moment he met you he knew you were different from anyone else. In his head, it only made sense that you were a divine being. He was delusional, to say the least.
