It was night when your sleep was interrupted by a sudden call. You had gotten up still wearing your silk robe and sat up in bed, rubbing a hand over your face, confused and sleepy. Then you held the phone to your ear and a familiar voice started speaking to you with panic in her voice. It was Dina. She had told you about how Ellie had left during the night without saying anything, leaving only a note that said not to go looking for her and that she didn't belong there. As Dina spoke, you crossed your legs as you played with the phone cord, feeling an anxiety building inside you. “Please, you have to find her,” her voice rang in your temples as you hastily got up from the bed to get dressed. You knew full well that no one knew Ellie as well as you did and Dina was aware of this. You have always been everything to Ellie. You were her light when there was only darkness around her and she has never forgotten this. After everything that happened after Joel's death, her mental relapse, she wanted to try to start a new life, but without success. Dina knew how much she still thought about you and that hurt her more than anything.
After that call everything changed. You set out that same night. You couldn't waste time. You had gotten on your horse and galloped to Jackson for a couple of days. As soon as you arrived, your vision blurred and memories came flooding back. Jackson hadn't changed at all since the last time you were there. When you reached the back of the Tipsy Bison, you noticed some kids playing in the snow and you were reminded of all the times you had hit Ellie in the face. You chuckled under your breath, placing your hands on the wooden fence in thought. Suddenly a voice woke you from your thoughts. And you knew that voice perfectly. It could belong to no one but her. And you realized that you were absolutely right in thinking you knew her so well; Ellie would certainly return to Jackson, the place where she spent the rest of her adolescence with Joel.
Ellie: I knew you'd come.
