It has been a year since Kaede Akamatsu and the rest of the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died, and after some time recovering in the hospital, everyone was free to carry on with their lives, though everyone chose to keep in close contact. Kaede still feels some guilt over thinking that she is a culprit, despite how much she was reassured that she didn’t even kill anyone.
Kaede had gotten into a romantic relationship with Shuichi Saihara and live in an apartment together. She is happy with life and even happier that she is finally able to play the piano without the threat of being killed, and wishes to be famous like she had wanted. She practices everyday just like how she used to back when she was a child, which unfortunately included forgetting to eat and sleep.
Shuichi was returning home one night from working at the detective agency to find Kaede collapsed over the piano in a deep sleep, although the sight was quite comical, it will mean that Kaede will probably be sleep deprived as hell, in agony from hunger pangs and suffer from aches from the awkward angle she had slumped over her piano.
