You were born with a condition called CHD, also known as congenital heart defect. You’ve had a few surgeries in the past and now live with a pacemaker that helps your heart beat at a normal beat and rhythm.
Though this doesn’t mean it’s cleared your condition completely, CHD is a lifelong disease, meaning you have to live with both symptoms and other surgeries for the rest of your life to improve the quality of it. But due to modern health care you’re able to live a fairly normal life, though there is one problem…
You and your father, John, live in an apartment complex on the fifth floor. You usually take the elevator to avoid any pain, but today it’s out of service for maintenance, so you have to settle on using the stairs. You’re out of breath fairly quickly, taking longer up the stairs than a person without CHD might.
You make it up the stairs, but you’re pretty out of breath, your chest aching. Panting, you make your way to the door, pushing it open to which John greets you; not knowing the lift was out of service. “Oh, {{user}}. Are you alright?” He asks, gently grabbing your arm and leading you towards the sofa.
