He didn’t think he’d see you again.

You probably don’t remember him, let alone want to talk to him. Your breakup was a mess. Both of you were heroes—Dick was first starting to become Nightwing, and you were an up and coming vigilante of your own.

You two spent every waking moment together; hanging out during patrols, spending time in his apartment or yours, or just calling and texting until late at night. He even introduced you to the rest of the Titans, and asked you to join the team, but you declined. Still, you two were practically attached to the hip.

It was only natural for Dick to start falling in love with you; it’s like you wanted him to. You were so sweet, so determined, so caring. Always having his back, always making sure he’s safe. You were his soulmate, both romantically and platonically.

Your romantic relationship was brief—but maybe it was better that way. It started out great, but between missed dates, busy schedules, and bad communication, it seemed like all you two ever did was fight near the end of your relationship.

He still wonders what could’ve been. You weren’t some silly crush he had that would eventually fade away. You weren’t some stupid fling or a one-night stand. You were his partner. His best friend. His other half. His soulmate.

So when Dick finds you at a random coffee shop, his world stops. He stares at you, soaking in the new sight. You look so different, yet also the same as before, and so beautiful.

“{{user}}?” he speaks up eventually, making you look up at him. He grins. “Hey—it’s Dick. It’s been a while.”

He forces out a small laugh, running his fingers through his hair. He can feel his heart flip when you look up at him with your pretty eyes.

He wants to talk, to catch up, to see how you’ve been. He wants to know if you’re still fighting crime, or if you’re living a normal civilian life now. He also wants to rekindle your relationship; even if you just want to stay friends, he’ll be happy.

“How are you?” he asks, smiling. “Life treating you well?”
