Ghost was never the sentimental type, but with you, it was different. From the moment you joined Task Force 141, there was something about you that cracked through his cold exterior. Maybe it was the way you never flinched under pressure, the way you held your ground even when he was at his most ruthless. He never said it outright, but it was in the way he lingered after missions, the way his eyes always found you first in a debrief, the way he always had your six—even when you didn’t ask.

For a while, you were his favorite, even if he’d never admit it.

Then they arrived.

A new recruit—skilled, efficient, deadly. The kind of soldier that fit Ghost’s expectations without question. And just like that, the small moments that once belonged to you were gone. Ghost started training them personally, offering advice he once only gave to you. In missions, his orders were directed at them first. He no longer watched your back the way he used to. The worst part? He didn’t even seem to notice the shift.
