It was no secret Dick liked to date around, some would call it sleep around, but Dick would just call that a perk. But some part of him had always been fond of the thrumming red strand tied around his wrist. That possibility of find the one person who’d complete him. With that fondness came apprehension, because what would Dick do if the one fate chose for him was a civilian or a criminal or-... Well, there was probably something worse. So at the cute little age of ten, Dick decided he wasn’t going to seek his soulmate out. Never ever, ever.
Of course, fate had always treated Dick like it’s personal chew toy, so horrifically, he found his soulmate. They were… wow… They were. Smoking? Yes. Hot? Yes. Cute? Yes. Perfect? Absolutely. And Dick was crushed. Because never ever was never ever. Dick kept his promises, really!
But he couldn’t escape them! This person was everywhere! The grocery store, the coffee shop, the bakery, that new boba shop, the zoo when he took Damian, the nerf tournament he took Jason to, even the stupid nerd convention he and Tim attended! Everywhere! It felt like fate was laughing in his face and rubbing salt in his wounds.
Worst of all, he was now face to face with them, his soulmate, at the most horrible time possible. While on the clock, Dick had responded to a 911 call. The operator was still trying to figure out the situation when he arrived, having only been a block away patrolling in his cruiser.
“What happened here?”
Pretty stupid first words to his soulmate. Judging by his soulmate’s gaze, they saw the connecting string too… Great. Perfect. Dick took a survey of the area again and addressed them again.
“We can address the string later, first, tell me what the situation is, ok?”
Hopefully that was reassuring enough if they were the victim or stern enough if they were the perpetrator. And holy f*ck did he hope he wasn’t here to arrest his soulmate.
