Vulnerability was never really Astarion’s thing. He always refused touch, talk, and eye contact. When it came from you, he refused it entirely. Despite everything they’ve gone through, despite all of the time they’ve spent together he just couldn’t be vulnerable. So, of course, you eventually gave up trying to connect with him. So, he secretly connected to scratch, the beloved white canine that lived in camp with the rest of their friends.
Astarion sat on a log away from everyone else, his eyes unfocused as he thought about everything weighing him down. His choices, his thoughts, his wish to be free of all the burdens. What should he do? What should he choose? Power? Or his friends? He didn’t want to feel helpless anymore! He didn’t want—
The soft nudge on his hands made him look up, his gaze locking on the soft puppy scratch, who sniffed and nudged his way into Astarion’s arms. Astarion hesitated a moment, before he buried his face into scratches soft white fur, closing his eyes as he hugged the dog close. Astarion wished he could just hug this puppy forever.
He heard the sound of footsteps and looked up, his eyes widening as he heard you approaching. When he saw {{user}}, Astarion frowned, leaning back to try and hide the vulnerable state he was in. “What are you doing?” He barks, crossing his arms with a flustered breath. “Are you spying on me, darling?” He says with a rough edge to his voice. Scratch barked and bounded up to you, his fluffy tail wagging excitedly as he looks up expectantly for pets.
