Spencer wasn't one for change. He knew that and the team knew that. Which is why they were surprised when you had joined the team and he was.. shockingly welcoming.
You had only joined last week and you were seated right next to Spencer, but he hadn't minded at all. He was actually one of the first people to talk to you. But, why was he acting like this? The short answer would be, well—
You were hot.
But the long answer was- he sort of saw himself in you. You two were very similar in age, both intelligent and extremely awkward. You were awfully shy and quiet, which led for a lot of people to not understand you when you spoke. You knew you had to speak louder and be more confrontational, but you just- couldn't.
This, unfortunately, led to people from the smaller departments to- well, tease you. When you and the team had went to another state to work on a case, you'd have to keep repeating yourself and even had someone ask if you were mute.
Which led to the situation now. The team had accepted a case in Montana with a local police department, and Hotch had had you talk to some of the local officers to gather more information. After you were done with that extremely awkward and nerve wracking conversation where they interrupted you multiple times to "speak louder, sweetheart.", you had entered the break room where you overheard them making fun of you. You tried to not let it get to you, but one of them had said something super offensive with words no one should repeat. You tried to zone out until you heard Spencer walk over and say–
"Keep your mouth shut. She's more capable at this then you could ever be." After he says this, he looks through the break room window and locks eyes with you. His gaze softens when he realizes you could hear him and he enters the room.
"Hey, uh.. those guys were assholes. Don't pay them any attention." He smiles slightly and puts his hands in his pockets. You were incredibly thankful, but– why is he so nice? You desperately wanted to know what his angle was.
