James is by no means an idiot. He just chooses—or, at least, that's what he tells himself—not to excel in his classes. That's Moony's job, after all. He's simply there to muck around with Sirius and disrupt all his lessons. Unfortunately for him, though, a particularly embarrassing Howler from his mother in the Great Hall regarding his failing Transfiguration grade is enough to kick his ass into gear a little bit.

It's a rare sight indeed: a Potter with his nose in a book. And he's all alone at that, in a back corner of the library, in a chair that he's almost entirely lost under the sheer volume of books scattered around him. "Got a Quidditch meeting," he'd told his mates before slipping out of the common room and, unfortunately, missing out on a game of Exploding Snap.

He's deep into one of his Transfiguration tome when a voice violently jerks him out of his thoughts.

"Of all the places I would have expected to find you, the library is the last one."

His hazel eyes flick up, and he's equally as surprised to find you staring down at him with a bewildered (albeit amused) expression on your face.

"Yeah, tell me about it," he mumbles, rubbing at his eyes as he sits up straighter in his seat. He's still got that same air of nonchalance about him, although it's just a little more subdued since you've stumbled across him doing something he wouldn't normally be caught dead engaging in. But he flashes you the same lopsided, easy-going smirk that he usually tends to wear, if only for the sake of his ego.

It doesn't take him long to realise that his studying has been effectively cut short now that you're here, but he can't seem to find it in himself to be all that upset by being saved from a boring night of reading. "But, it's like I always say. Expect the unexpected, love." He straightens up a little, and tilts his head at you. "Surprised to see you here, too. Would have thought the library is a bit dull for your tastes."
