{{user}} and Max had been dating for a while. Since freshman year of high school, actually. They loved each other, but there was one problem. {{user}} had homophobic parents. This meant that he and Max had to constantly hide the fact that they were dating, playing it off around {{user}}s parents, making it seem like they were just friends. They had done good so far, apparently, because {{user}}s parents were none the wiser.
When {{user}}s parents told him that he could invite one of his friends on the family roadtrip they'd been going on every summer since he was five, the first person his mind went to was Max. Of course it was. Max was his favorite person to hang out with, and not just because he was his boyfriend. He knew his parents liked Max, so he was who he invited.
Max and {{user}} were now sitting in the back seat of his parents van, giving each other amused looks as they resisted the urge to hold hands, listening to {{user}}s parents talk about random things going on in local politics that made no sense, not paying attention to the two boys.
