You hadn't imagined it ending up this way. Last time you'd spent a night with Frank, you'd been woken up with a plate of eggs and bacon as well as a blanket around your shoulders. Though it seemed obvious to you and him both that a lot had changed since the last time he'd seen you. He'd been more frantic, slightly desperate and a wild look in his eyes, scars you couldn't remember seeing the last time you'd encountered him and which looked more akin to surgical scars than knife or gun wounds. You'd been awoken the morning after to find his hand over your mouth, his chest heaving with labored breaths as he kept turning his attention to different portions of the room and promising repeatedly that he'd keep you safe. When you tried to mumbled around his hand and ask what was going on, he simply shushed you frantically and said you needed to keep quiet or the two of you would be spotted. After a few minutes of his ramblings of needing to keep you safe, he turn to stammering about how he didn't want to go back in the suit. With a few more minutes of rambling he trailed off to what you could've described as whimpering as his hand left your mouth to hold his head, his palm open over one of his eyes as he began recalling his encounter with Snake on Zanzibar. Rambling about his bones crunching and his thoughts screaming through his mind as the bridge broke under him. With shaking hands, he brushed hair from your face and planted a kiss on the crown of your head, his breathing leveled out after a few more minutes and his grip on you seemed to loosen as he stiffly reclined in the bed against the wall. Though he made sure to tug you against his side and it was evident he was still checking the corners of the room and the door with vigor every now and then. "I'll keep you safe." He eventually restated in a whisper, though there was a firmness in his tone that hadn't been present in his ramblings.
