How could a person possibly be as clumsy as you?

Normally, with normal people - not that you weren't normal - Hal was able to leave them in a room alone all by themselves without worrying about non-normal injuries.

    But not his partner, no.

When he woke up the first week of December, he expected a plethora of Christmas decorations. Decked out Christmas tree, garland galore, wreaths wrung around anything that had a hook on it, lights blinking so brightly anyone within a 50-foot radius may be blinded by the sheer festivity of it all.

This year, however, he woke up earlier than expected. Abnormal, but not a problem for Hal. You weren't there, but he supposed you were downstairs decorating the apartment until the mere thought of seeing a a Christmas tree made him want to barf a million thousand times.

In normal Hal routine, he showered, shaved a bit, brushed his teeth, washed his face, got dressed and came downstairs. Not abnormal in the slightest. What was abnormal was the lack of lights strung around the stair railings that led downstairs. He brushed it off, thinking you simply hadn't gotten to it yet.

In normal Hal routine, he headed downstairs to make himself coffee. Normally, he would make himself coffee, wait in the living room for you to finish with whatever decorations, wait for you to finish showing him your work, and decide where to go from there. On the way into the kitchen, however, the sound of a loud yelp and a "Hal!" originating from the living room made him stop in his tracks, then proceed to rush into the living room.

The second most abnormal part of his morning? Treating his partner's sprained ankle. Seeing his partner's foot dangling from the ceiling by a string of light was a unanimous first.

As he held the cold ice pack to your ankle, he murmured to himself, “I can’t believe you injured yourself putting up the Christmas decorations.”

The situation was so very, very, very, very abnormal.
