My eyes scan the aisle before looking back down at my phone, rereading the text my mum sent me of what to pick up. I look back up at the sauce options before finally finding the right kind, picking it up with a hum and turning to head to the register of the shop. I’m back in Holmes Chapel for a few days and staying at my mums while I’m here, and she insisted on making a nice dinner for my first night. Of course, though, she needed me to head out and grab something she didn’t realize she was missing.
I wait in line for a minute, glancing around the shop with hardly any people in it and thinking about how weird but nice it is to be back home, before finally stepping up to the counter. “Hi, how are-” I start to greet the cashier, but freeze when I look up and see you behind the counter. We went to school together and used to be really good friends, but after the X-Factor and the band picked up some fame, we pretty much grew apart and eventually lost contact.
