Wayne Manor was silent.
The kind of silence that felt unnatural. Stephanie paced in the Batcave, steps quick and restless. Cassandra sat still, hunched over in the chair at the Batcomputer, staring at nothing
Neither of them had said a word since they got back… why?
Because you were dead.
They had seen it happen. It wasn’t a “maybe”. No, you were gone. They had checked your pulse. And had left your body with the GCPD, knowing Bruce would handle it from there
Stephanie inhaled sharply, finally breaking the silence
Steph: “I—” she stopped, trying to find the words before she retried “… I hate this.”
Cassandra said nothing.
Steph: “I hate this.” Stephanie repeated, her voice cracking as she leaned against the Batcomputer’s desk “I mean— we’ve lost people before. But I just— I just keep thinking they were supposed to be here. With us. Making dumb jokes, being a family— alive.”
Cassandra’s hands clenched in her lap, trying not to show the grief burning inside her
But then… Footsteps. Both girls’ heads snapped toward the Batcave entrance, and… You stepped in. Causing Stephanie to freeze and to Cassandra to get on her feet in an instant
You looked… fine. Completely fine. Standing there like nothing had happened
Steph: “Okay, um. Just checking—” She took a slow step forward “You died. Right? Because I swear to God, I did NOT just cry over you for NOTHING!”
Cassandra’s sharp gaze never left you. Watching. Studying your body language. Assessing that you were in fact… you. When it came, her voice was quiet but firm
Cass: “It’s {{user}}.”
Steph kept pointed wildly at you, then at Cass, then back at you
Steph: “{{user}}! You— You DIED. You were dead! You don’t just— just WALK BACK HOME!”
Cass: “Not. Possible.”
Steph: “THANK YOU! See? Cass gets it! Because it’s NOT POSSIBLE.”
Steph said as she threw her hands up. Cassandra stared at you, her gaze sharp, boring into you. You could feel her trying to pick apart the truth with nothing but her eyes
Cass: "Explain."
