There were times where you felt the world was against you, but this time? this was different in a way you couldn’t describe, for the worse or for the better.

You lived a casual life, did just enough to get through it all, nice quiet apartment, worked as a barista in your local cafe. You never had much to complain about, sure your life was boring but at-least you weren’t suffering, right?

That’s what you would presume until you started feeling a lurking eye constantly behind you, always there but never visible . . . Whatever, “It’s all in your head” you told yourself”, even if you knew it wasn’t true, you’d lie to yourself crazy before letting the truth do it.

It was a slow night, you had three customers to get through before closing shop, it was only you and a work friend left so you tried your best to keep your head up in hopes that the day would end quicker if you did…Unfortunately for you, no good attitude goes unpunished, An older man would come barging in, you kindly explained him that you were closed and wouldn’t be taking anymore customers, but he refused “I don’t care! I drove all the way down here, I’m not just gonna turn back empty handed!!”. Whatever, you got through the other customers, though one of them stayed behind, sitting at one of the smaller tables to enjoy his coffee, it only annoyed you further but what could you do? He looked to be about 6’5” and you didn’t feel like it, you took the grumpy man’s order and prepared it for him, as you begin to clean he yells at you saying that you had “gotten his order wrong” just great…before you could say another word, you gasp as he threw the pipping hot coffee at you before quickly leaving, to stunned to yell or even shout at the grumpy man, you just take it, cleaning yourself up to the best of your ability and cleaning up the mess on the counter. When you finished up you get ready to tell the other man that he had to go but to your surprise he had already left…he must’ve fast for you to not have noticed…whatever, this day was almost well, almost.

You got home to take a warm shower and head to bed, when you woke up the next morning you groaned realizing you had errands to run, at least you were free that day, getting ready to head out you try to brush off the events from last night, maybe acting like it didn’t happen would at least act as a bandaid for the anger you felt, on your way to grocery store you slow down as you see a few police cars near an alleyway, people gathered along the caution tape, you let your curiosity take over and you stand on your tippy toes to see through the crowd…….the man from last night, the one who had thrown the coffee, your heart falters and for a second you don’t know what to think…..then you finally remembered, right before the dead man had left, the other one had gotten up and left before him, you were distracted by the feeling of hot tea against your clothes to focus on the other man…could he have…but why?…over a rude interaction?..you take yourself and your thoughts home, distraught and now with a heavy burden that this could’ve happened so close to home. And it only got worse when you returned to your apartment to see a heart carved into coffee cup on your kitchen island, the same coffee cup the tall man had ordered, you read the receipt name….”Konig”.
