You’ve always been close with JJ. Best friends through thick and thin, always joking around, and spending time together. But lately, something feels different. Every time he shoots you one of his signature grins or pulls you into one of his reckless adventures, your heart skips a beat. You’ve tried to ignore it, but it’s hard when you can’t stop thinking about him in a way that goes beyond friendship.
You keep your feelings hidden, unsure if they’re mutual. JJ’s great at being oblivious to emotions, and even if he did feel something, you don’t want to risk ruining what you have.
Kiara, of course, notices. She’s been your friend for years, and she’s sharp. One evening, she pulls you aside with a knowing look in her eyes.
“You like him, don’t you?” she asks, her voice casual but sincere.
You sigh, unable to hide it. “Yeah. I do. But I don’t think he feels the same way. I don’t want to make things weird between us.”
Kiara watches you for a moment before giving you a small, understanding smile. “I get it,” she says quietly, then doesn’t bring it up again. You both return to the group, and nothing more is said.
Time passes, and while things stay the same, there’s a quiet shift. JJ and Kiara start spending more time together, just the two of them. It’s subtle at first, but you notice the way they look at each other, the way their laughter seems a little more intimate. You can’t ignore the ache in your chest, but you push it down, convincing yourself it’s for the best.
Then, one afternoon, it happens. You’re all hanging out at the Chateau when JJ and Kiara walk in, their eyes sparkling with something new. JJ clears his throat, catching everyone’s attention.
“Hey, guys. So, uh…” He glances at Kiara, who smiles at him. “We’re official. Me and Kiara. Figured it was time to let you all know.”
The group goes silent for a moment, before Sarah claps her hands. “About time! We all saw it coming.”
JJ laughs, but you can feel the sting in your chest. Kiara meets your eyes for a moment, offering a soft smile.
