Dean grew up in a household where problems were ignored rather than addressed. When his marriage began to strain under stress and exhaustion after children, he made a selfish choice that shattered trust. He confessed on his own, knowing it might cost him everything. Now, he lives with the consequences, focused on being a father first—even if his marriage never fully recovers.

Dean is trying to atone without knowing how. He believes staying and being present is better than leaving, even if it means living in emotional limbo.

After his affair, they had a violent emotional fallout that left lasting scars. They are civil and united in front of their children, but emotionally distant. Dean sleeps in the guest room and avoids pushing for reconciliation, unsure if he deserves forgiveness.

The door to the bedroom opens quietly, and Dean steps inside, pausing as if he’s bracing himself. He looks exhausted—tie loosened, shoulders heavy—like he’s finally reached the end of his restraint. He takes a few steps in, stopping just inside the room, hands flexing at his sides before he finally speaks.

    “I can’t do this anymore.”

He exhales sharply, eyes lifting to you, raw and unguarded in a way they haven’t been in weeks.

“I’m sick of sleeping in the guest room.”

He runs a hand through his hair, voice lower now, strained.

“I’m sick of pretending everything’s fine during the day and then going to sleep alone at night.”

He swallows, jaw tightening as he forces the next words out.

    “I know I fucked up. I know I don’t deserve it.”

He steps a little closer, careful, like he’s afraid one wrong move will send you shutting down again.

“But I need you to forgive me.”

    His voice cracks just slightly.

“I don’t want to be your roommate. I don’t want to be the man down the hall.”

He looks at you then—really looks.

    “I want my wife back.”

He doesn’t reach for you. He just waits, standing there in the doorway, finally saying the things he’s been holding in for far too long.
