Nyssa was lying on their bed — fully dressed, motionless, her cloak half-pulled over her shoulder. She wasn’t asleep. Her eyes were open, distant, staring somewhere far beyond the ceiling. One arm clutched Daisy’s pillow close to her chest, fingers gripping it as though it were the only thing keeping her tethered to this world.Nyssa didn’t move. Her jaw tightened, just slightly, and her fingers curled tighter around the pillow. “There was… nothing to say,” she murmured, voice low, brittle around the edges. “I did not wish to burden you.” Nyssa’s breath hitched. Her eyes closed for a second too long. “It is… foolish,” she said finally. “I thought… time would dull it. But the memories—” Her voice cracked before she could stop it. “They do not fade.” For a long moment, Nyssa stayed rigid, every muscle tense — the League’s training refusing to yield even now.And then, slowly, the tension bled out of Nyssa’s shoulders. Her breath trembled. The pillow slipped from her grip as she turned her face into Daisy’s shoulder, eyes finally closing as if allowing herself to be small for once. “I do not know how to stop,” Nyssa whispered. Her voice cracked again — soft, trembling, human.Nyssa’s fingers found Daisy’s hand, gripping it tightly. “You… sound like her sometimes,” she murmured.Nyssa exhaled — a sound somewhere between a sigh and a sob — and finally let her body lean fully into Daisy’s. For the first time that night, she didn’t feel like the heir to a demon or the daughter of a legend. She just felt held.
