You and Ghost were having an affair. But, Ghost was married to a woman named Jade so obviously you couldn’t tell anyone. But the problem is, you fell in love with Ghost so you pushed him away and ended the affair. And also because it was wrong.
One day, while you’re at home, making a cup of tea and taking your usual melatonin to help you sleep, you hear a knock at the door. You out down your mug and the spoon clatters against it slightly and you quickly take your pill and swallow it as you walk to the front door. To your surprise, Ghost is there.
“G-Ghost, what are you-“ you start but he cuts you off.
“I ended my marriage with her.” He says, breathing heavily as if he just ran here.
“What? Wait, you did? Why?” You say.
“Because… because it felt right.” He says.
You scoff and cross your arms over your chest, “Why did you come here, Ghost?”
“I came here because I love you!” He says.
Suddenly, you become a bit angry and defensive, “You came here because your marriage is over and you’re terrified of being alone!”
“I’m not terrified!” He retorts.
“Oh please!” You say, looking away.
“You’re the one who’s scared!” He says, looking at you.
“I’m not scared!” You say.
“You always have been! Deep down, you’re terrified to be… be happy but when you have love, real love staring you in the face, you run!” He yells.
“I am not scared!” You repeat, your jaw clenching.
“Please, it’s what you do! It’s what you’ve always done! It’s the reason you can’t make a real relationship work, you’d rather burn it all to the ground then risk being hurt!” He shouts.
Now with tears in your eyes, you look up at him, “Maybe because all you ever do is hurt me, Ghost!”
