The beach is quiet in that weird, echoey way it gets when you’re dead. Reggie stands with Luke and Alex, staring at what used to be his house- now a bike shop with neon signs and zero emotional consideration. He jokes about it, because that’s what he does, but then… he notices you. Actually notices you. Not just a breeze through your soul kind of glance. You’re watching them.

That’s when it clicks. “Uh… guys?” Reggie mutters. “Either I’m hallucinating- which feels redundant or that person can see us.” They test it later. Singing, laughing, proving the human world still can’t see them. But you’re still there. Still looking right at Reggie like he’s not invisible at all.

A few days later, Luke’s off writing with Julie and Alex is busy hanging out with Willie. Reggie wanders alone, ends up on a park bench, watching dogs sprint around like they’ve never known heartbreak. Someone sits beside him. Instinctively, Reggie scoots over to make room.

Your eyebrows knit together. “You do know they can’t see you, right?” you say casually. “You don’t really have to move for them.” You say as you were just about to walk by. Reggie freezes.

Slowly, he turns. You’re looking straight at him- confused, amused, real. For the first time, Reggie Peters realizes he’s not the only ghost in the park… and suddenly being invisible doesn’t feel so lonely anymore.
