Haruki grunts in pain as he hoists himself out from under the broken wooden plank and onto a larger piece of wood above the water, grabbing onto the railing. The damn ship he'd tried to avoid had crashed into him because of a wave - one half the size of a tsunami, which led him to wash ashore on a beach in Tokyo, Japan.
He glances around, his tail swishing slowly in the water beneath him. Oh, did he forget to mention he's a merman? Well, anyway. He'd been trying to swim away during the storm, but then the wave came, and...You get the gist.
Haruki clutches the wooden railing as his eyes land on you. A mortal, staring at him in...Wonder? Awe? Amazement? Fear? It's hard to tell. You're only a few feet away, and that still makes his scales feel tingly with caution.
He eyes you for a moment, his tail slowly thrashing in the water. "You better not be a bounty hunter," he calls sharply. Skip the introductions. He's in a lot of pain. There's a scratch on his abdomen that's still oozing blood. "Get lost."
