The way my ice skates cut the blank ice under my feet feels magical. I take some deep breaths as my teammates slide out on the ice as well. I can hear the familiar rumble of the crowd having their own conversation. I let my gaze wander over the different sections, eventually landing on you two. I knew having a relationship while playing in the NHL would be complicated. But when I met you, about 10 years ago, I knew I’d do anything to make it work. It was like an angel walked into my life. It has been hard, not gonna lie. Practices late at night, you being away at work while I had breaks during the day, me traveling around with the team.

We’ve had some decent amount of fights and arguments, the biggest one was probably when you found out you were pregnant 5 years ago. Just thinking of it breaks my heart, but it turned out so much better than I ever thought it would.

I can’t help but smile when I see Ava holding up her sign. “Go daddy, you’re the best”. A warmth spreads through my chest as I skate over to the two of you. “I didn’t think you’d come!” I shout over the plexiglass with a soft chuckle.
