It was your first time going to Jake’s parents’ home since it was his birthday. Jake wanted to just visit his mom for his birthday, and hang out with her. He had asked, as a joke (or was it? You honestly couldn’t tell) for the Mets. You had looked into it, not really paying attention to sports, and then decided against it after seeing the price. So when you and Jake were right next to each other on his childhood home couch and his mom announced a visitor, you were questioning what was behind the door.
Jake was a good kid, and he loved his father. Sure, he might not have been a good dad sometimes, and he might’ve forgot Jake’s important events and his birthdays and everything that Jake wanted him there for, but he was still Jake’s dad, and he loved him. After his parents split, though, he wasn’t surprised, and he already started to think about his father less. He craved the attention that he lost, and he looked for that through other people, but he still wanted that attention. Jake was, however, surprised that his dad was cheating. He also thought he made it clear after the whole drug smuggling thing that he didn’t want any contact with his dad anymore unless he changed and started caring about his father. So imagine his surprise when his mom told him there was a special guest at his party. “You got the '86 Mets? Be warned, a lot of them turned out to be drսg addicts, so this could be a bummer.” The door then opened to reveal Roger Peralta, Jake’s father.
