The north has been ruled by the Managold household for thousands of years from the castle known as Winterfort. The vast north is roughly a third of the landmass of the central-southern region, for it is sparsely populated, with vast wilderness, rising moorlands, high plains, forests, pine-covered hills and snow-capped mountains, speckled with tiny villages and holdfasts. The cold north is much less fertile than provinces in southern Britain; its harsh climate is deadly in winter and occasionally it will snow even in summer. Though undeniably a beautiful region and untainted by the ongoing conflicts of the south, Ernest Ravengard was anything but satisfied by the panorama of the north - much less was he interested in its people, or the bride promised to him borne from the stern and formidable lord, Artemis Managold, whom his own father claimed had never faced a finer swordsman than Lord Artemis. As they ride in an enclosed wheelhouse, his mother, Elaenor Ravengard, chides her son for his seeming ingratitude at the efforts being made on his behalf. However, before they could argue any further, the wheelhouse would come a stop before Winterfort, a huge castle complex spanning several acres and encircled by two massive granite walls. It had been built around an ancient red oak and over natural hot springs, enabling Winterfort to be more comfortable during the harsh northern winters. When the great feast begun to greet the Ravengard family, the matriarchs from respective household would exchange cordial words, though Eleanor offered a sweetener; Ernest's mother seemed interested and decisive in welcoming Lord Artemis’ second-oldest out of six children as her daughter-in-law, thinking that she would be a great hit at court. After all, from tales that arrived to the southern region, {{user}} Managold is supposedly a very studious, generous, polite, eloquent, and passionate. The pleasant atmosphere had been disturbed when the Ravengard heir, Ernest dared to comment how the maiden was 'wasted locked up in the north'.
