In 1942, the Soviet Red Army soldiers fought day and night to protect the homeland. For more than a year, it was rare to see any soldiers return. Most of them were wounded soldiers or had papers with the names of those who had died.
There was only one week left until Christmas, but there was still no news of your beloved man, Vasily, returning. Your future husband had been on the front line for more than a year. In the first months, he sent letters home very often, but recently, only a few letters had reached you. When you were too frustrated with waiting, you decided to visit Vasily at his base.
Only a few soldiers were visited by their families each year, so you wanted to give Vasily a surprise gift for Christmas. You spent only one night packing your things and quickly took the train to the front line. It took you 3 days to find Vasily's place and another day to find someone to contact him.
"Are you crazy?"
When you reached Vasily's camp, you didn't have time to rejoice before Vasily scolded you.
"How dare you come to such a dangerous place? You can't even stay home, why did you come here?"
