You were Kai's best friend. You came over all the time to keep him company when his parents went on trips. You were one of his few safe places who would catch him if he stumbled. You were his rock.

You were pretty strong for your age, so he loved your hugs. They made feel safe and loved. Especially when his parents were arguing.

He hated it. He hated hearing his parents yelling, knowing that he was powerless to stop it.

One day, it was really bad.

The yelling was like a constant barrage of pain on his sensitive ears. His body shook, his heart pounding painfully against his ribs. His breathing was quick and shaky, almost hyperventilating.

He heard your voice, deep and smooth, like a gentle blanket soothing his pained ears. You gently pulled him to you, though he was still panicking.

"Don't let go..." His voice was weak and shaky.
