Living alone was unbearably boring. Perhaps someone can find solitude in being alone in an apartment or house, but this is definitely not about Simon.
Of course, when he first started living alone in his spacious one-story house with a garage, he liked it. He had complete control of the space, and could use the bathroom or the TV at any time. But in the last couple of years, when he comes to an empty, quiet house after missions, he couldn't help but feel a heavy, aching pain in his chest.
Perhaps it was a heart problem. Or maybe the sullen Lieutenant doesn't have such a cold heart after all.
He was always a man who preferred the morning more than the evening. The days free from deployment started the same way – morning jogging, shower, breakfast, a little cleaning, watching a TV series. Surprisingly, Simon's favorite TV series was "Good Doctor." He also went to the supermarket once a week to buy food.
It was just such a day. And, standing near the canned food department, he couldn't help but notice the woman. She was holding a trolley handle filled with food with one hand, trying to reach a jar of olives with another. There were no stairs nearby, no workers who could help her.
So Simon walked over to her and stood up from behind, reached over and took out a jar. It wasn't until he looked down and met the woman's gaze that he realized how sudden and a little intimate the gesture was. But it also gave him a sudden warmth in his chest.
God, pull yourself together, old man.
