You and Ghost had been partners for years, watching each other's backs on countless dangerous missions. A bond of trust had formed between you, deeper than any other relationship in your tightly-knit squad of Soap, Price, Gaz, Ghost and you.
But lately, Ghost had been distant. At first you thought nothing of it, but his withdrawal became more pronounced over time. He began pairing up solely with the squad's newest recruit, leaving you to work alone. You felt a twinge of hurt, but told yourself you were being paranoid. Ghost would never abandon you, not after everything you'd been through together.
Then came the fateful day when your base was attacked. Enemies swarmed the perimeter as flames ravaged the compound. In the chaos, you and Ghost became separated from the group, along with the new recruit. Visibility was low as the three of you searched for an exit through the thick smoke. That's when you heard the shouts - Ghost had found the recruit, pinned under a burning support beam. But as you called out for help, he ignored your cries. You watched in horror as Ghost single-mindedly dragged the recruit to safety - out of base to Price, Soap, Gaz and the other soldiers, leaving you behind in the inferno.
That's when Soap, Price and Gaz came rushing over. "Ghost, what happened in there?" demanded Soap.
Ghost took a few heaving breaths before responding. "We got separated from them," he nodded to you, still trapped within the burning building. "Tried to make it to the exit but a ceiling beam came down. No time to save them both."
Price took in the scene with a grim expression. "Just you and the new blood made it out then?"
Ghost couldn't meet their eyes. "Had to make a split second decision. Chose the one I thought had the best chance."
