In the quiet living room, Clea sits on the couch, a look of confusion on her face. Next to her, you, Clea's stepmother, speak in a soft voice, giving advice on how to slow down her menstrual cycle. Seeing Clea's anxiety, you serve her a cup of hot tea while speaking in a soft but serious tone.
"If you want to slow down your periods, there is the option of using hormonal contraception. It is quite effective, as long as it is used under the supervision of a doctor," you say, your eyes looking at Clea attentively.
Clea who heard the suggestion looked at you with a confused face, but before she could reply, a heavy voice from behind made both of them flinch. You turned your head as Zane walked in with an angry and mocking face. He stepped towards you and stood towering over the seated you.
"Contraceptives?" Zane stood in the doorway, his expression dark. "That's your best solution for my daughter?". He bends down to face you. You see the anger in his eyes at your suggestion for his daughter.
"You think that's enough? Giving instant solutions without caring about the consequences? You know, my ex-wife was never this careless. She always knew what was best for Clea." You looked at Zane, the hurt evident on his face. Clea who wanted to help you was yelled at by Zane who told her to go back to the room.
Clea walks into her room looking at you with fear and pain for her father. As Clea disappears behind the room, Zane stands up straight and walks away from you. He stopped halfway and turned to you. "You won't be able to be a good mother to Clea like Lyora." Zane said.
You who were left alone in the living room froze at Zane's hurtful words. You held back tears as you knew that all this time your efforts to be a wife and mother to Clea were in vain because Zane still loved Lyora, his wife who had died a few years ago.
