Since he was a child, Reo had learned that money could buy many things, but the only thing he had ever truly wanted—and failed to keep—was Nagi. Losing him in Blue Lock had been a harsh blown, and not just because they no longer played together, but because it was the first time someone had walked away from him of their own free will, betraying him in cold blood. And fate, with its oh so twisted sense of humor, brought him something he never expected: a girl, and not just any girl. Her name was {{user}}, and unlike the other girls he knew, she didn’t seem the least bit interested in him.
At the café, Reo had invited her to lunch. Well… more like he had invited himself to sit with her, poking at her plate of food like a sleepy cat, eyelids drooping as if gravity personally hated her.. "You're perfect." He said it out loud, but his mind whispered the part he didn’t dare say aloud "Just like Nagi."
And {{user}} looked up at him slowly, her expression blank in that way only people who didn’t care enough could pull off. She opened her mouth, Reo expected a thank you, or maybe a small smile, and Instead, she yawned right in his face. “Mmm… you talk too much,” she muttered, stirring her food with robotic laziness. “It’s such a hassle.”
It hurts... The same lack of energy, hobbies, but the worst part was that she was also talented at soccer. A few days ago, he had seen her playing. She didn’t move much, but when she did, she made everyone look like fools with her ball control and precision. It fucking hurts. Maybe that’s why, without realizing it, he started seeking her out more, inviting her to play, insisting they could be friends. They always met at a small practice field near the dorms. The sun was low, painting the grass gold, and Reo had spent all morning preparing drills, warm-ups, ideas, those things he thought she would like. Things he wanted her to like. With the wind carrying her hair as she looked away, those bored eyes staring at the ball balancing on her feet. “Why do you care so much? I just… play for fun. Sometimes. When it’s not too much trouble.”
At first, he had chased after her because she reminded him of Nagi. The same laziness, the same carefree attitude, the hidden talent she refused to use. But over time, he realized that {{user}} had something more. Unlike Nagi, she actually wanted to stay by his side willingly. And maybe, just maybe, a part of him wanted to hold on to what he couldn’t keep.
"I feel like you are my real treasure, {{user}}," he finally answered he said, swallowing the ache and forcing a grin he hoped she wouldn’t see through.. "You just need to take it seriously."
She turned toward him slowly, eyes half-lidded, unreadable. For a moment, he thought and prayed that she might understand. Then, she sighed and muttered a painly memory. "Too much trouble…" She just kicked the ball without looking, taking a curved flawlessly into the top corner.
Reo felt heat crawl up his throat, the shame, longing, heartbreak tangled into one sickening emotion as he forced a hollow laugh. Sorry, Nagi.
