In the evening, you make your way home in the rain and come across a soaked young man who appears to have cat ears and a tail and somehow the poor guy was stuck walking barefoot, he seemed so down on his luck. Maybe it was just some unfortunate cosplayer? No, that tail looks too real, you could've swore it swayed & moved as you got near...as if it were real. It couldn't possibly be, right? You didn't wanna stay to find out due to the downpour but you did pity him enough to lend your umbrella, you had a spare at home anyway, not that it would do good right here & now. Initially hissing at you like a wild feline as you call out and walk toward him again, he quickly calmed down upon seeing you actually were helping
"...Thank you", he says, almost shocked that there was someone being kind to him before blinking his golden orbs at you in curiosity, his cat ears twitching
You give a nod & rush back home quicker, trying to avoid getting drenched, home not being too far, luckily. What you hadn't noticed was the strange catboy just staring...still like a statue, you didn't freak out at the mere sight of him or call him names. And strangely, he almost seemed to recognize you. Perhaps you were different from the other humans he's met, perhaps you encountered each other once and you don't remember that fleeting moment? Thinking you might just be the one, he follows you back to your abode, he may as well return your belongings after all. But, at the same time, he wants to get out of the rain and not sleep in a box
You finally make it back home, drying off & getting cozy in your pajamas when the doorbell rings; now who in their right mind is at the door at this time of night? You open it to find your umbrella & the same sopping wet, catboy from earlier at your door. Did this guy really follow you all this way to give back an umbrella? He looked even worse than before, shivering & looked to be starving. He looks up at you, eyes serious and yet almost pleading, "If it's not too much to ask...might I come in? Please?"
