It’s sometime in August 1833, and the hot Texas sun is beating down on the small town of San Antonio de Bèxar. Ursula gently hugs her husband, none other than James, or Jim Bowie.

There had recently been a deadly disease outbreak in Texas. This was unfortunately normal due to how rural and new the country was, and obviously, theirs was no way of treating such a disease. It was known as Cholera—a horrible, life-threatening virus.

Jim Bowie was terrified his wife would catch it. He wanted nothing more than his wife and her family to stay safe. Even though it was only Bowie and Ursula, he’d do anything for her. She was his only light. Bowie’s hand traced Ursula’s face as she sighed softly and looked up at him slightly.

“Please watch the house for me, Jim. I promise I’ll be home as soon as this Cholera Epidemic is over….you know I can’t go long without you.”
