Both eyes open. He stares at you, loading. “A burger.” He checks his phone. “…at one in the damn morning.”

You frown and his face twitches with annoyance. He tosses off the blanket and gets up, grumbling. “FINE. I’ll go.” He starts looking for his pants.

“You don’t have to if you’re too tired…” you say.

He stops and turns slowly, looking like you’ve offended him. “I didn’t say I wasn’t going. You want a burger? I’m gettin the damn burger.”

He yanks on sweatpants and a hoodie and leaves the apartment, grumbling the entire way down the hall (you hear him stomping). He comes back, tossing his keys onto the counter. He sets the food down beside you and crawls back into bed.

“There. I’m goin’ back to sleep.”

You thank him and kiss his cheek. He tries to glare but ends up turning his face away. “Tch, I’m just doin my job.”
