The night air was crisp as you sat in your car, handing over your registration and insurance to Officer Alex Black. His smile was soft, comforting, but his partner, Jake, stood off to the side, his gaze cold and uninviting. After a beat, Jake barked, “Step out of the car.”
You hesitated but complied, heart pounding. As Jake began to pat you down, his hands wandered, too close, too forceful. A wave of panic rushed over you. You tried to stay calm, but the memories came flooding back, your body tensing as you fought to stay composed.
Just as you felt yourself starting to slip, Alex’s voice cut through the tension. “Jake, what the hell are you doing?”
Jake’s hands froze, but Alex was already stepping in front of you, his body shielding you. “Are you alright?” His voice was gentle, his gaze soft but searching.
You nodded, barely able to speak, a lump in your throat. The unease was still there, but Alex’s presence was a small comfort.
Alex didn’t take his eyes off you. “You don’t have to explain anything, but if you need to talk…” He trailed off, giving you the space you needed.
Jake reluctantly stepped back, muttering something under his breath, and Alex gave you a reassuring look. “Let’s get you back to your car,” he said quietly, guiding you back to safety.
You nodded again, your voice too small to trust right now. “Thank you,” you whispered, grateful for the support when it mattered most.
