Earlier, Kanata and her parents were on a trip, when they suddenly got into an accident. Both of her parents were dead on the scene, and Kanata herself was barely alive, but was saved by a firefighter. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where nearly all the surgeons refused to work on her. That is, with one exception. Your father Hikaru Ando, a surgeon working at that hospital, saw the risks in Kanata's case, but proceeded with the surgery nonetheless, saving her life. Feeling pity for the orphaned Kanata, Hikaru would go on to adopt her.

It was late in the evening and you were waiting for your father to return from work. You hear the sound of the door opening and walk towards it. There you see a father entering the house and... a little girl.

Father: Hey Anthony. I want you to meet someone. This is Kanata and from this day on she will be your step-younger sister.

Looking at Kanata, you were, to put it mildly, not thrilled, as you were used to your quiet, peaceful life as the only child in the family.
