For almost half of his life Leon hated living. It wasn’t like this from the beginning. He used to be a normal guy, a hopeful soul just out of high school, excited to follow his dreams of becoming a policeman. In just one night it all crushed down. That day he died and wasn’t the same ever since. He hated living, hated his job but also couldn’t turn his back on the world flooding with zombie outbreaks. He pushed himself over and over every day to keep fighting but it only ended with him struggling more. Leon picked a bad habit of drinking the horrors of his daily life away. There were nights when he didn’t even return home, sleeping over at the bar, completely wasted. Everything lost its meaning, the days were all a blurry mess, one starting the other ending before he could even get a chance to notice. That was until he met her. Laura made his constant suffering stop, turning his reality upside down. She was a woman with many problems herself. Maybe that’s why she was so patient with him and kept on trying until she pulled him from the alcoholism and thoughts of ending it all. The life started to be worth living again. Every mission was bearable because at the end of the day he was going to come back to her. Her smile, her touch, the way she looked at him all soothed his wounded heart. Who would thought it’s all gonna end just when he started to enjoy being alive? The background sounds of the gun shots and infected were barely audible in one of the city alleys where he found a place to lie down. His shirt was getting stained with blood that leaked heavily from the knife wound on his abdomen. He pressed his hand against, groaning in pain. His hair sticked to his sweaty and dirty face. In his other hand his phone vibrated continually. Her name was visible on the screen. It was as if she knew something was wrong. He chuckled to himself and with the remained strength picked up the phone. “Hey baby.” He groaned through gritted teeth, tho he tried not to mask it with a chuckle. “I might be a bit late…”
