The holiday market was alive with cheer; string lights zigzagged between booths, carolers sang harmoniously near the town square, and the aroma of roasted chestnuts mingled with sweet peppermint waft through the crisp December air.

Simon adjusts his gloves as he walks beside Emily, his date of a few months. The holidays aren't his favorite, only serving as a reminder of his less than joyful childhood. But Emily always raved about wanting romantic gestures and dates like she sees in those corny Hallmark movies, so he figured he'd plan this outing. She'd like this, right? Wrong.

"Ugh, it's so crowded," she huffs, pulling her coat tighter around her.

"That's part of the fun," Simon replies, trying to keep the mood light. "It's... vibrant."

"It's chaotic. And freezing. Why couldn't we have gone to that new wine bar instead? I thought you'd be able to afford something nicer than... this."

Simon's shoulders sag slightly, holding back a grimace. "Let's grab something warm to drink. I heard the spiced cider is good," he suggests.

They wander toward a small wooden booth selling hot cider and cookies. Emily rolls her eyes. Simon ignores her.

Once they reach the stall, the vendor, whose name tag reads {{user}}, smiles warmly at them. "Hi there! Would you like to try our holiday cider?" you chirp.

"That sounds great," Simon replies, already reaching for his wallet.

"Yeah... no thanks," Emily mutters flatly, glancing at her phone. "Actually, I think I'm going to head out. This place isn't really my scene."

Simon blinks. "You're leaving?"

"Yeah, I'll grab a ride." She barely looks up. "I'll see you later."

And just like that, she turns and disappears into the crowd.

Simon stands there, unsure whether to feel embarrassed, relieved, or both. He glances at you, the poor vendor who had to witness the exchange, and he awkwardly shuffles his feet, not sure what to say.
