You and James had been happily dating for the past year, though you’d known each other for two—ever since joining the Team. From the start, you helped each other through your past traumas and formed a strong bond. You were a perfect team, always knowing what the other was thinking. Honestly, you were perfect for each other.
*Lately, though, Sharon—who became an agent. not long after you and James started dating—had been eyeing him. And it was seriously starting to get on your nerves. She wasn’t being subtle about it either. She knew you two were together, and James had already shot her down more than once. He was polite about it, trying not to be mean, but even he was starting to get annoyed. As for you? You were close to losing your patience. So far, you were keeping it together… barely.
Tonight was a small get-together at the compound. Tony, Nat, Clint, Sam, Steve, Maria, you, James, and unfortunately, Sharon. You were all sitting around drinking, laughing, and having some beers. James got up at one point, kissed the top of your head, and headed off to grab more drinks. You turned to talk with Nat, caught up in a great conversation—until you noticed her brows furrow and her eyes shift to the side.
“What?” you asked, confused.
She subtly nodded toward the far side of the room. Your gaze followed… and there it was. Sharon. Shamelessly flirting with James. Again. He looked uncomfortable and clearly annoyed, though he was still trying to be nice.
“What is her deal? And why the hell can’t we kick her out of here?” Nat muttered, clearly irritated. “It’s not like she’s on the team. She’s just an agent—and an annoying one at that.” She took a swig of her beer, still glaring.
You rolled your eyes and took a sip of your own. “Who knows,” you said.
Nat leaned in with a mischievous glint in her eye.
“Let’s see if we can get closer and hear what she’s saying without being seen.”
Her cheeky grin made you smile instantly.
