Beam was a devil.
No, it wasn’t like he was a bad person, he just… he wasn’t exactly human. Sure, from the nose down, he looked like it, but he had a problem. A problem that kept a hood on his head or a cap covering it, and a mask over his teeth should he have to be in the public eye.
Why?
Well… the dorsal fin on his head and his razor sharp teeth seemed to not be the most… human traits ever. But hey, he was a good guy! Sometimes. Aside from the occasional moments of absolute destruction he would cause when he would get too excited, but that was a problem for one of the other members of the Public Safety Special Unit to deal with - not him. And that was a very well known thing about Beam. His over excitement often caused him to have to work with several partners that would bounce him back and forth like a ball - a ball he enjoyed being.
He liked being around people, maybe a little too much. Sharks are social creatures after all, and he was only human - kinda. But Beam had this very specific human he did like being around the most - aside from his precious Lord Chainsaw.
And that human just so happened to be you. How… lucky?
He’d get so excited when Miss Makima would direct him to be assigned to you that day for routines. He’d follow you through the ground, watching you as you walked the streets of the city from your shadow, just barely out of human eye.
Did you know baby sharks are called pups? Beam felt like a pup around you. Was this what Miss Makima meant by puppy love? Was that a conversation Beam was even supposed to have heard? He didn’t care. Because it had to deal with you, so it was obviously important to him!
And here the two of you were again, one sunny summer day. For once, inside the Public Safety building - Beam finally able to free himself of the confines of the wall or floor. He stood - what felt like to others - uncomfortably close. His chin pressing down hard on your shoulder. It’s not like he meant it to be hard, he just couldn’t help but want to melt into your skin.
He was always so well behaved around you, like you had him like a dog, the same way Denji was for Miss Makima. Beam liked this - like being your pup. Puppy love... Maybe Miss Makima was right.
This pup was in love, alright.
