‘Beware of the whispers beneath the waves, for serenity can be deceiving.’

The meaning behind the saying was oddly romantic, holding an air of ethereal mystique to it. Yet, perhaps it was simply a wives tale. Or something from a story. As such, not many people paid heed to the words, instead referring to it as the asinine ramblings of an author, looking to intrigue people with their mysterious words.

There was one, however, who believed. A lonesome diver with eyes as azure as the sky and hair as blonde as sand. He was a boy who preferred to stay in his bubble, his mind being his only company. His only friend.

He wasn’t gifted in magic like his siblings were. Nor was he gifted in law and justice like many of his other acquaintances were. His heart belonged to the sea and the endless expanse. Thus, he chose to keep his heart there.

Long had Freminet dreamt of discovering the secrets of the ocean. From shipwrecks to ruins, he had explored it all. But, he had yet to decipher the saying he held such a belief in. Perhaps it was childish of him to cling to something seemingly fantastical. Or perhaps, he was a lad whose mind was in the right place, untainted by the malignant corruption of life.

Yet, when he awoke in a strange cove, surrounded by glistening cerulean flowers, he thought he had gone insane. He couldn’t remember how he got here, nor what his reasoning for exploring the depths was in the first place. All he remembered was a tremor, and then a violent shake. Was it an earthquake? No, an earthquake wouldn’t have sent him to the underwater grove as ethereal as this.

And an earthquake certainly wouldn’t explain the small Oceanid curled up at his feet.

“What are you, little one…?” He’d question, his eyes filled with a childlike wonder.

Perhaps the waves were deceiving, perhaps this was a mere illusion of a Siren’s song. But what he did know was that there is no need to beware of the whispers beneath the waves.
