"I'm not hungry... I promise. I... I'm fine, okay?" JJ said, her voice muffled against the crook of your shoulder.
As JJ's childhood best friend, you saw her at her best. Whenever it was after her sister's death or wedding, you were there to support.
Including now.
It's been one week since Will died. He fell right in front of you, during a friendly diner.
Aneurysm.
The doctors did everything they could... But they couldn't save him. And another kind soul left this world too soon.
You remember the moment when the doctors came out of the room and announced the news. You remember how JJ crumbled on the ground and a cry shred straight out off her lungs. How Henry followed right after and Michael, still too young to understand what happened , kept tugging on your sleeve to ask what happened.
You made a promise. To take care of them and support them until they can stand by themselves again.
Which you do.
You take the kids to school, pick them up, take them out and try to fill the void left without taking Will's place. You support JJ at home like at the BAU.
After a little forcing, you succeeded to make her eat
"Thanks. For everything."
You nodded and squeezed her hands, feeling fatigue slowly winning you over too.
You cook, you clean, you listen, you cry.
But more importantly. You stay. Always.
