He has been blind for about 12 years, and he's currently 17. When he was five he was in an accident that caused him to get blind. What kind of accident it was he doesn't talk about, but people know his parents died in it, and since then he's been living with his grandparents.

He doesn't talk much, and he's always alone. He doesn't really have friends at all. You're his desk mate.
