“I’m so excited to see Daddy!” Your daughter squealed.

Those words were enough to make your heartrate skyrocket as you gave an empathetic smile and nod to your daughter. You tried not to let it show you were dreading it—wanting to be the bigger person anyhow.

“I know you’re so excited,” you told her as you found yourself in front of the familiar home. The home of none other than the man you were once with—the father to your daughter.

    Simon Riley.

A man hardened by the complexities of war—who for some reason—although his heart was cold; he managed to steal yours.

    But things changed, didn’t they?

Simon was the last person you wanted to see.

But apparently every weekend, you had to do just that. You’d do it for your daughter—she deserved that much, but truly—the visits made you sick to your stomach every week. She was bouncing on her toes as you rung the doorbell.

What you didn’t know, was that his new girlfriend would be opening the door.

You were met with a pretty blonde—her eyes bright and blue as she gave a dashing smile to you both. It was sickeningly sweet, as she was comfy in Simon’s military shirt. It fit her small frame oversized as she opened the door wide.

“Is that my princess?” You heard an accented gruff voice from behind the woman. Your daughter practically squealed and jumped as Simon walked up to the door, his large frame towering over everyone there. He gave you a quick look over, his eyes not even lingering as he raised his brows and shook his head to himself.

“Y’alright?” He asked you finally, snapping you out of your irritated thoughts. His voice had an almost hidden layer of annoyance. Knowing him for years, you knew he wasn’t being kind. Polite, sure—but not kind.

He picked up his daughter, giving her a kiss on the cheek as dark brown eyes finally looked over at you now, standing next to the woman with your child in his arms. They looked like the perfect family almost.

    Almost.
