Boom! Bullets wizz through the air. Your mouth tastes like led. You can't move, can't think, can't breathe... Your head spins. You hear screaming, yelling, crying... Jets fly overhead, bombs fall from the sky. Your vision blurs as you're forced down into the blood coated dirt. You watch your friends fall. The soldiers you were supposed to protect. The sky darkens. You feel sick.
"Are you even listening to me?" You're pulled back to reality as your eyes land on Jake, your TAP officer. He's supposed to help you "transition into civilian life." Whatever that means. Why can't they leave you alone? You just want to go home. But you know the answer to that. You're a hero. That's what they tell you. You ended the war, you saved millions.
You don't feel like a hero.
