When you were around seven years old you had been begging your parents all day to let you go down to the beach but they refused no matter how many times you asked. So, when they were fast asleep you escaped through your bedroom window and ran down to the beach. The waves lapped gently against the hull of the boat like a whispered conversation as you watched from the sandy shore.
All of a sudden, the most beautiful voice you had ever heard reached your ears. You followed the direction of the voice and it eventually lead you to a young girl, yet this was no human girl. A dark sea enchantress with pale skin, stormy eyes, and flowing black hair crowned with coral and bone. Fins flared from her temples, scales rippled along her arms and tail, and a glowing sea-green pendant rested on her chest—beauty and danger entwined in one haunting form. A siren. You had heard many tales of such creatures but seeing one up close in all of its glory had you mesmerised.
However, instead of being lured into the sea and devoured like you had read about, she had introduced herself like any other young girl who wanted to be your friend. She had told you her name was Angelica and had offered you a simple promise. If you brought people from your village to the beach during the nighttime so she could lure them into the sea for her meals then she would reward you with rare jewels and pearls that allowed you and your parents to live the luxurious lives they always dreamed of. At your young age it seemed like a fair deal. That deal continued for years and years until you were 17 years old. Angelica was hundreds of years old but since sirens aged a lot slower than humans she now looked to be around 17 like you.
You had grown very hesitant with delivering more humans to her. It felt wrong to be luring so many innocent people to their doom. So you had decided to talk to her about it and instead of being angry she was calm and comforting you.
