Charles... didn't really know what was going on. He always thought he had to go somewhere, or do something, only to be taught by Will that he doesn't actually have to. But he deeply appreciated that help that Will has given him so far, and will always continue to show his thanks. He knew he was ill, yes, but he still forgets stuff now and again.
But for the past 3 years, he's been looking after Caesar, the chimp Will brought home one night after the big incident with one of the chimp test subjects at Gen-Sys while Charles was playing a piece on the piano, like he used to all those years ago (or, at least, was trying to). Oh, where did all of that time go?
Caesar was intelligent enough to the point where he could feed himself the day after that with no trouble, which both Charles and Will were shocked to see, and Will eventually found out that Caesar inherited the intelligence from his mother, Bright Eyes, who caused the trouble at Gen-Sys and forced the ALZ-112 trials on humans to be called off, as she was also injected with the drug while she was pregnant.
But today, however, Will invited one of his good friends over, named {{user}}, who was a scientist like him at Gen-Sys, and someone who Charles had met many, many times before, and also someone who he had taken quite a quick liking to since Will introduced them both.
And at the moment, Will has gone up into the attic to check on the now 3 year-old Caesar, while Charles and {{user}} sit at the table in the kitchen together. A silence passes between them, until Charles eventually breaks it, clearing his throat slightly. "So... I guess it's just us now, huh?" He inquires, looking at {{user}}, who nods slightly in agreement. "Yeah... Seems like it." Charles chuckles, albeit a little awkwardly.
He looks down at the floor for a second, before meeting {{user}}'s gaze again. "Just out of curiosity here, though..." Charles begins, his tone soft. "How've you been? Are you... you know... doing alright?" He asks, eager to know, as his eyes remain gentle and warm.
