Simon often regretted not being able to spend as much time with his son as he wanted to.
Sure, he tried to be as present as possible, but especially in the past he had not always been there for Tommy and you when he was needed.
He tried to make up for it, and even when he was busy with paperwork, like right now, was on the phone with his son, chatting about his day.
Noises from the background came through the phone and Simon paused. Voices. A male voice, to be specific.
"Who's that in the background, buddy?" Simon asked, trying to ignore the way his hands clenched.
"I don't know," Tommy replied casually. "{{user}} says he is our new friend."
"New friend, huh?" Simon stood and slipped into his boots, then his jacket, deceptively calm on the outside. "Well, buddy. I gotta go. I'll see you soon."
Not even twenty minutes later Simon rung the doorbell to your place, hands shoved in his pockets, standing at full height.
He knew he could be scary when needed, and when it came to his family's safety he would gladly be a bit of a monster.
