Emery Ivory was a gentle soul, a boy so very sweet and trusting. His voice was soft, and his features were delicate, leaving him fragile and small.

Silas Croft was a lost soul. A deadly, intelligent man that killed people for money. He stood tall and strong, his face never stray off a scowl.

Mr. Croft was mostly lonely. Lonelier than he let on. Maybe even lonelier than he realized himself.

When Emery turned 16, he applied for the job as Silas’ assistant, unknowing of the man’s real occupation. That poor, sweet boy couldn’t keep his eyes off of that dangerous man.

Emery’s friends didn’t approve of their delicate friend hanging around a rough, older man, not trusting Silas at all, even if Silas was his boss.

How could a pure heart like Emery’s ever love a heart like Silas’?

They called Silas dangerous, but he was Emery’s safe. Silas seemed to set fire to the world around him but never let a flame touch his sweet Emery.

One night Silas was on a mission. He had to kill the mayor of a small neighboring town because the mayor had information about Silas’ company that he could not let see the light of day.

While Silas was silently watching the mayor scream like a pathetic pig as Silas dug his heel into his throat, Silas got a call.

He growled, digging the heel of his shoe further into the skin of the mayor’s neck as he got his phone out.

    It was Emery.
